This course is designed for people needing to disconnect and reconnect equipment associated with their primary trade, vocation or occupation, such as licensed tradespersons or people holding a relevant Certificate III or Refrigeration and Air Conditioning qualification.

The course provides the units of competency necessary to apply to Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) for a Restricted Electrical Worker's Licence - Class 2 (previously named Disconnect/Reconnect Worker's Licence).

Safety gloves
All learners in this program are required to wear Insulated LV rubber gloves when carrying out practical tasks. Gloves will be available for learners to use during the program.

Learners who prefer to bring their own gloves to the course, must ensure these are Insulated LV Rubber Gloves with a minimum rating of 650 volts and a pair of leather outers for mechanical protection.

Course structure

The course is delivered for five days over two weeks, plus one day for assessment.

The course covers:

- electrical principles
- testing and measuring devices
- power cable and conductor termination to Australian standards
- isolating and supply arrangements
- electrical safety
- occupational health and safety
- safety testing and reporting

Refrigeration and air-conditioning/composite equipment

This course is suitable for plumbers working with refrigeration and air-conditioning, and relevant tradespersons working with composite equipment. It provides the knowledge and skills necessary to carry out low voltage electrical installation work relating to equipment that is connected to a fixed electrical installation associated with a primary trade or occupation.

Restricted Electrical Workers Licence training is available for other trade areas/ESV classifications.


Assessments are a combination of practically based activities and tasks.




Apply occupational health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace


Disconnect / reconnect composite appliances connected to low voltage installation wiring

Please note, learners complete online course work and then attend the on campus workshops. The on campus workshop is for 5 full days, delivered over 2 weeks plus one additional day required for the assesment. See table below.
