This is a VET Delivered to Secondary Students course and can be completed as part of your VCE or VCAL program.

The course offers the opportunity to develop competencies for a work entry program providing grounding in safety, and basic skills and knowledge for work in any electrotechnology industry.

The course is a pre-vocational electrical program, designed to provide an introduction to the electrical/electronics industries in areas such as air-conditioning, electrical, refrigeration, or instrumentation.

It enables you to develop broad based competencies in a range of electrotechnology fields such as lighting, general power, fire protection and security, robotics, instrumentation, optical data and voice systems, electrical motors and control systems.

It also enables you to make more informed choices in the selection of vocational career paths, and gain a recognised credential and credits for further training as an apprentice or trainee in the electrotechnology industry.

During this course, you are required to provide overalls, work boots and clear safety classes.

Entry requirements

When undertaking the course, you must be enrolled as a VCE or VCAL student.

This course requires at least Year 10 mathematical knowledge, and is not recommended if you find mathematics at this level challenging.


Outcomes

QUALIFICATION AND RECOGNITION

You will be eligible to receive the UEE22011 Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start), and be well positioned to pursue apprenticeship opportunities within the electrical industry.

Successful completion of the course can be credited towards your apprenticeship training. This is appealing to prospective employers when seeking employment, as you have already commenced the off the job training component of an apprenticeship.

PATHWAYS

At the completion of this course, you may wish to apply for credit and continue your studies in the UEE30811 Certificate III in Electrotechnology (Electrician) Apprenticeship or the UEE33011 Certificate III in Electrical Fitting Apprenticeship.
