  • Course Overview

    This course prepares you for entry into the telecommunications industry and convergenttechnologies, including radio, optical, data and internet protocol (IP)networks. The course is suitable for trades workers or skilled labourers whoare seeking to extend their current skill base to include telecommunications,or those who may be already working as a technical support person in theindustry and require the formal training to meet licencing or regulatoryrequirements.

    This course has been designed toenable you to apply for one or more of the cabling endorsements with ACMA (www.acma.gov.au), including Coaxial CablingEndorsement, Structured Cabling Endorsement, Optical Fibre Endorsement, and/orOpen Cabling Endorsement.

  • Course Structure

    This course is delivered through a combination of theoretical learning, practical demonstration and hands-on activities on campus. 

    Topics include:

    • Industry code of practice, licences, regulations and standards
    • Structured, optical and coaxial cabling and components
    • Fibre characteristics and performance
    • Installations and termination
    • Maintenance of optical fibre cabling systems
    • Field testing techniques, fault finding
    • Compliance and documentation.

    Assessment

    Assessment may be a combination of written and online assignments, tests, examinations and practical application projects.

  • Requirements

    Recognition of prior learning

    You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.
