Course Overview
This course prepares you to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the demand and quality standards for the rollout of high speed NBN infrastructure. This course is designed with working professionals in mind, meaning no formal pre-requisites or work experience is required.
There are two course streams being offered for this course; you can choose to study Telecommunications Technician specialising in Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial (HFC) carrier networks or in Optical Fibre Carrier Networks.
Telecommunications Technician - Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial (HFC)
This course stream is a pathway for you to become a qualified telecommunications technician specialising in Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial (HFC) carrier networks.
You will learn how to perform equipment and system installation work to enable efficient access and connection to NBN broadband services through HFC delivery. This includes connection and termination of HFC cabling, installation of digital reception systems and Internet protocol (IP) devices, as well as designing and maintaining communications wiring systems. This course stream allows you to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the demand and quality standards for the rollout of high speed NBN infrastructure on HFC carrier networks.
On successful completion, you will gain the competencies required for the Open Registration (ACMA) with the Coaxial endorsement, Construction / Induction (White card) and the Work Safely at Heights accreditation.
Telecommunications Technician - (Fibre)
This course stream is a pathway for you to become a qualified telecommunications technician specialising in Optical Fibre carrier networks.
You will learn how to perform equipment and system installation work to enable efficient access and connection to NBN broadband services through Optical Fibre delivery. This includes splicing, managing, and terminating optical fibre cabling, as well as designing and maintaining communications wiring systems. This course stream enables you to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the demand and quality standards for the rollout of high speed NBN infrastructure on Optical Fibre carrier networks.
On successful completion, students will gain the competencies required for the Open Registration (ACMA) with the Optical Fibre endorsement
Course Structure
This course is delivered through a combination of theoretical learning, practical demonstration and hands-on activities on campus.
Assessment
Assessment may be a combination of written and online assignments, tests, examinations and practical application projects.Requirements
Recognition of prior learning
You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Outcomes
Qualification & Recognition
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to receive the ICT30415 Certificate III in Telecommunications Network Build and Operate qualification.
Career Opportunities
Depending on which Course pathway you choose to study, on successful completion, you will gain the competencies required for ACMA Open Registration and Coaxial Cabling Endorsement or Optical Fibre Endorsement.
