  • Course Overview

    The ACMA Open Registration course involves both practical andtheoretical training in the installation and maintenance of customer premisescabling systems. 

    The course is designed for those who want to enter into the telecommunications industry or trade workers and technical support persons already working in the telecommunications industry, wanting to apply for the ACMA Open Registration Licence.

  • Course Structure

    This course is delivered through a combination of theoretical learning, practical demonstration and hands-on activities on campus. 

    Topics include:

    • Cabling practices to S009:2013
    • Australian regulatory environment
    • Industry Code of Practice, Licences, Regulations and Standards
    • Cabling connections
    • Installation practices
    • Terminations and NTDs
    • Testing
    • Completing TCA1 forms, NTD record documentation

    Refresher Course – for experienced telecommunications workers

    A refresher course is available for experienced technicians only. The refresher course involves online self-paced study to be completed and attending a two-day practical workshop session on campus that covers all practical assessment requirements.

    When applying, please inform the department of your experience to ensure your eligibility for the refresher course.


    Assessment may be a combination of written and online assignments, tests, examinations and practical application projects.

  • Requirements

    Recognition of prior learning

    You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.     After successfully completing this course, you are eligible to receive a nationally endorsed statement of attainment.
